PLANNING COMMISSION OPINION SURVEY

The Butler County Board of Supervisors has contracted with the Nebraska community and county planning firm of Hanna:Keelan Associates to assist a recently appointed County Planning Commission in the preparation of a Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Regulations for the unincorporated areas of Butler County, including areas of the County located outside all incorporated communities and their associated Planning Jurisdiction boundaries.

The Butler County Planning Commission consists of seven County residents. Roger Topil serves as Chairman of the Commission. Tim Keelan and Keith Carl with Hanna:Keelan are the principal planners working with the Commission. December 1st was the official start of this proposed planning process.

The Comprehensive Plan will be a 10-Year Plan addressing the existing and future population base, land use, public facilities, and transportation network needs of rural Butler County. The Zoning Regulations, in general, will address the permitted and special permitted land use types and associated building setbacks and other related requirements, as determined by a Future Land Use Plan.

An important component of this Comprehensive Planning Process will be a proposed Citizen Participation Program, which includes the distribution of a County-Wide Public Opinion Survey. The Survey will gather important information from citizens regarding future land use in the County Rural Community (agricultural, public, residential, commercial, industrial, development, natural resource conservation, wind and solar energy, etc.). Other probable citizen participation activities during the Planning Process will include County Rural Community area meetings. Meeting dates, places, and times are yet to be scheduled and will be publicized on the County website. Citizens are also welcome to attend scheduled Planning Commission meetings. Watch for Public Notice of these meetings.
