County Clerk
The County Clerk is responsible for a wide variety of duties. She serves as secretary to the County Board of Supervisors and the Planning Commission. She is the bookkeeper for the County and countersigns all vendor and payroll checks approved by the Board and signed by the Chairman. Since 1987, marriage licenses have been issued by the County Clerk’s Office. Several other special duties are required by law. The County Clerk serves as the Register of Deeds and Election Commissioner for Butler County.
Birth and death records are no longer filed at the County level. Records are available at DHHS Vital Records.
The County Clerk’s Office does NOT handle Motor Vehicle Titles. These may be obtained through the County Treasurer’s Office.
Military Discharges
In order to record a military discharge, you must obtain a Form DD 214. The County Clerk will be able to record this form once received by the County Clerk’s Office.
